Give your learners a great start, with practice greeting their friends, and asking how are you? Show learners how easy Spanish is with cognates from the world of work, from taxistas to futbolistas. Present a little grammar, with personal pronouns from yo to ellos, and a few verbs including ser, hablar and tener. Study un poco de geografía en español, and talk about la familia.

I have also included a 'Ser and Estar' poster making activity because we think about inherent permanent aspects of a person and ones that are changeable in this class.

Activities built around the traditional song 'Qué llueva' requiring learners to put drops in a bucket, trace a bucket, listen to a story about animals hiding in a cave from the rain, colour some weather picutres, and sing the song (simplified version) I have put my own rough recording to help you with the tune, though you could look for it on youtube.

Greet a friend revising past lessons, meet the verb ser and answer questions about it, use esta es and este es to present or introduce a friend, first reading examples and then using prompts to create your own examples, read about the Spanish royal family, in a mixture of Spanish and English, and then do a vocab exercise, prinicipally on cognates, review presentations and using the verb ser.

Learners complete a checklist indicating if they find a given aspect of a type of holiday to be a good thing of a bad thing. Learners look at the example scripts, then create their own texts giving the advantages and disadvantages of a place they have visited.

We learn the language by acting it out, then I give the children the pictures to put in order and plant the seeds. We drill the language and reward good speaking aloud.

Present or review numbers 1 to 24. Talk about advent calendars, and present the idea of making a chain 24 loops long to be reduced by a loop a day until Christmas. Give teams the strips and ask them to arrange the strips in order before using sellotape or stickers to make them into a chain. Strengthen the chain by laminating sheets back to back. The child who removes the loop on a given day can wear it like a bracelet for the day/ lesson. Learners can have their own print outs to take home, decorate and make up into a chain.
